ALR-2002 Radar Warning Receiver (AIR 5416)

SMS Defence Solutions is supporting BAE Systems to further develop and test the ALR-2002 Radar Warning Receiver.

The ALR-2002 is an Australian-developed Radar Warning Receiver, designed to detect and identify radar systems through their electromagnetic emissions.

The ALR-2002 Radar Warning Receiver was initially developed by DSTO to meet the needs of the RAAF’s F-111 fighter/bomber, replacing the ALR-62 equipment. DSTO then contracted AWA Defence Industries (later acquired by BAE Systems) to develop the receiver for production.

Following a review in 1998, two projects, AIR 5391 F-111 EW Upgrade and AIR5394 EWSP for ADF Transport Aircraft, were restructured to create AIR 5416 Echidna. Under Phase 2A of AIR 5416, the ALR-2002 receiver will be installed onto the Army Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters.

For further information about AIR 5416, refer to the Project Echidna Home Page.
