The objectives of this project are to develop a mature aircrew and crewstation anthropometric capability.
Anthropometry is the measure of physical, functional and
relational dimensions of people and the accommodation of those dimensions within the workplace or workstation.
It considers the physical relationship between people, clothing, visual fields and equipment; in this case
ADF aircrew and their crewstations.
Partners
SMS Defence Solutions has teamed in a consortium with the following organisations to tackle this project:
SMS Defence Solutions's scope in this project, as a subcontractor to the University of Ballarat, is the specification,
design, development, integration and testing of the following software systems to be delivered to the ADF:
- Crewstation Accommodation Software (CAS) - The CAS comprises advanced modelling
components, associated graphical user interfaces, database storage and reporting capabilities.
The CAS will be deployed at the RAAF Aviation Medical Institute (AVMED).
- Recruitment Assessment Software (RAS) - This software will be deployed to every
defence recruiting office and will provide a simplified interface for recruiters'
initial assessment of recruits' anthropometric suitability for pilot roles within the ADF.
For more information about the project, visit the UniSA project home page
or the UB
project home page.
Centre for Applied Anthropometry
One of the outcomes of the project is the establishment of a
Centre for Applied Anthropometry.
SMS Defence Solutions will become a member of the CAA Advisory Board once established. The aim of the CAA is to build
a reservoir of expertise in 3D anthropometry, applied and refine the technical developed under
the Anthropometry Project, and extend the application of 3D anthropometry to other areas.
