SMS Defence Solutions developed and fielded a custom web based data
collection and analysis solution for a large Australian agricultural company.
The requirement was to robustly capture data in the field and analyse this data
collected over multiple sites to optimise stock management.
SMS Defence Solutions developed the data capture software for a hand-held PC and deployed onto
Symbol
ruggedised mobile computers .
A range of data types (environmental, feed, animal health, etc) is scanned (via barcodes)
and entered in the field.
Intelligent bounds checking and strict input controls are applied to reduce
invalid data entry and ensure that the initial data quality is of the highest standard.
Once the mobile computers are docked, the data is automatically uploaded from
each site via the internet to a centralised server where it can then be analysed
via a range of sophisticated search, filtering and analysis tools developed by SMS Defence Solutions.
The analysis results are visualised through a web-based client to ensure that the data
can be analysed wherever it is required.
Based on the Microsoft .Net platform, the server application architecture includes
Microsoft's SQL Server database,
ASP web components (incorporating extensive JavaScript) and
IIS Web Server in a client server
configuration, and Crystal Reports .
The system supports a range of standard reports and also allows users to customise reports.
SMS Defence Solutions also developed user documentation and provided training in how to use the
system and provides ongoing maintenance.
