Follow-On Stand-Off Weapon (AIR 5418)

Project AIR 5418 is aimed at acquiring a follow-on stand-off weapon for the ADF. The initial aim of the project was to equip both the F/A-18 Hornet and AP-3C Orion platforms.

SMS Defence Solutions supported Tenix on the systems engineering associated with the selection and integration of a follow-on stand-off weapon for the AP-3C platform.

Systems engineering processes were used to create system element specifications and other related documentation as derived from the top level AP-3C Function and Performance Specification (FPS). Cost/performance/risk estimates were developed for the integration of each weapon type onto the AP-3C platform.

The Lockheed Martin AGM-158 Joint Air to Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM) was selected in March 2006 as the preferred solution, with the decision to equip the F/A-18 platform only.

For further information about the decision regarding AIR 5418, refer to the Defence Media Release.
