The Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) is a network of leading-edge Over The Horizon Radars (OTHRs),
providing wide area air and maritime surveillance to Australia's north.
The design, development and commissioning of the JORN System represents one of the
largest most complex defence projects ever undertaken in Australia.
SMS Defence Solutions has worked extensively with RLM to
develop the Jindalee Operational Radar Network, providing support in a
number of key areas including systems engineering (across all aspects of
the design), software engineering, algorithm development, and integration and test.
SMS Defence Solutions has also worked closely with RLM and the OTHRSPO on enhancement studies and prototyping.
SMS Defence Solutions staff provided leadership in areas of OTHR technology, signal and data processing,
tracking, C2 design and development, coordinate registration, EW, maintenance
console and system integration and test.

The outcome was successful completion of the project in 2002 with key
SMS Defence Solutions staff involved right through until project completion supporting
integration and formal test activities.
SMS Defence Solutions been commended for the overall quality of support and professionalism
maintained throughout the longstanding support provided to the project.
SMS Defence Solutions also teamed with RLM and the Jindalee Project office in an
Integrated Product Team
structure to develop a Message Format Converter to integrate JORN
(which uses the ADFORMS legacy message format) with TADIL-J based systems.
